Microsoft's Surface Duo is no longer supported

 

Three years after its release, Microsoft has stopped providing support for the original Surface Duo. OS and security upgrades will no longer be applied to the device.

 The Surface Duo had a difficult lifecycle, experiencing delays in software upgrades and battling for consumer market success.

 

 Despite these drawbacks, homebrew software developers who tried to run beta versions of Android and Windows on the Surface Duo gave it a cult following.

This original Surface Duo's end of life is not entirely unexpected. Microsoft said that the smartphone would receive three years of Android operating system and security updates in both its support literature and throughout the launch phase. This time frame has ended, as noted by Neowin, and the Surface Duo will no longer receive support as of September 10, 2023.

The Surface Duo did have a rather difficult existence; it was released with Android 10 but received Android 11 in 2022 as opposed to the anticipated 2021 release date. The device eventually received Android 12L, but that is the final official update.
